Dmitry Smirnov

Violin

was 4 years old. In 2001, Dmitry finished the Secondary Special Music School of the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint-Petersburg State Conservatory (class of the Honored Cultural Worker Elena Zaiceva, Anastasia Milka). He was a student of the Lausanne Institute of Advanced Musical Studies (mentored by Professor Pavel Vernikov) and is obtaining his master degree in the Basel Music Academy (Rainer Schmidt).

Dmitry Smirnov is a laureate of the Oistrakh Violin Competition (1st prize, Moscow 2006), the Menuhin Violin Competition (2nd prize, Cardiff 2008), the Tibor Varga Violin Competition (1st prize, Sion 2015). Dmitry participated in the workshops of Pamela Frank, Pavel Vernikov, Vadim Gluzman, Gabor Takacs, Krzysztof Wegrzyn.

Dmitry has collaborated with Heinz Holliger, Stefano Barneschi, with the conductors Maxim Fedotov, Stanislav Kochanovsky, Vladimir Spivakov, Gilbert Varga. He appeared as a soloist with orchestras like Staatsorchester Mainz, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne.

He debuted on the stages of the Carnegie Hall New York, Wigmore Hall London, Nikkei Hall Tokyo, Konzerthaus Berlin, Mariinsky Concert Hall, Primorsky Opera House, Shostakovich Great Hall.
Since 2011 Smirnov has been a soloist of Saint Petersburg Music House and plays the “Nicolas Lupot 1801” violin kindly loaned by the NEVA Foundation.
